The Electric Shades of Coloured Biros

By Paula Briggs

This week’s Drawing Workshop for ages 6 to 10 was split into two distinct exercises. In the first half hour we explored drawing a glass still life with tracing paper, and then in the second half hour we looked at how we could use colourful biro pens to explore the luminosity of the glassware. I found some very cheap colourful Biros in Morrisons supermarket – and the colours were so synthetic I knew the children would love them. Also in complete contrast to the messy acrylic mark making of previous weeks, these pens would provide a great opportunity for an activity which gave itself to more precise mark making (and a great deal less cleaning up!).
