Lino Printing Inspired by Gestural Drawings

This post shares a lino printing activity by Joy Johnston, inspired by the work of Mark Hearld. Gestural observational drawings are made with a variety of media, and then the resulting sketches used to inform lino cuts. This activity was done with a year 6 class, and is the perfect activity to record seasonal changes happening around us.

This resource is based on methods shared during an AccessArt InSET session for primary school teachers at New Hall School, Chelmsford, to ultimately enable their pupils to develop colour skills. Teachers explored using their intuition and experience to mix primary colours, creating coloured swatches that matched the colours of spring flowers, whilst comparing painting mediums.
