Street Drawing: Exploring Vanishing Points with Masking Tape
By Sheila Ceccarelli
Building up on ideas contributed by Paula Briggs and Sarah Wright (The Drawing Machine) about how to approach teaching perspective, I led an experimental session giving teenagers the opportunity to immerse themselves into a street view and explore drawing with a vanishing point.

Hi Jo, this particular activity took place with young teenagers and involved being outside of a school. However, you could still deliver this to children within school, in the playground and observing the structures of the school building. Because of the technical nature of the activity, it would probably be best suited to upper KS2 in primary school, but there’s no reason why you can’t introduce the concept of perspective drawing to younger children from which you can build. Take a look at https://www.accessart.org.uk/simple-perspective-for-children-an-introduction/ to help you with this. Many thanks and good luck!
