Session Recording: Exploring Charcoal
Find a recording of a zoom session introducing charcoal to teachers & learners.
In this 30 minute session designed to give you a practical and hands-on introduction to an exercise or approach, Paula Briggs and the AccessArt team shows you how you can make the most of using charcoal to create a range of marks.
This recording supports the pathway Gestural Drawing With Charcoal pathway related to the AccessArt Primary Art Curriculum. In this session you will explore the properties of different kinds of charcoal to see how the different qualities vary the outcomes. If you would like to join in with the practical activity please have some paper and charcoal to hand.

Thanks for this – great explanation and visual resource in preparation for teaching charcoal to younger children. Love the link to the work of Kandinsky and really hoping their work has elements of this 🙂 My ambitious outcome is to represent celebration in Sikhism through gestural drawing with charcoal. Fingers crossed.

This was such a useful half an hour and has given me so much greater confidence in how to get my Year 6 class exploring charcoal. Thank you very much Access Art.
