3 |
Before you start making, EXPLORE your object... |
Write a few words here about its shape, its size, its
material, its texture. What do you like about your object? What do you dislike
about it? What does it remind you of? |
|
4 |
Lets think about TRANSFORMING your object… |
Use your imagination. What could your object become?
BUT - don’t design your object in your head or on paper – instead we’ll
let it evolve as you start making. |
5 |
You could CHANGE your object by destroying what is already
there… |
Write down some words here to describe ACTIONS you might
use to change your object. To start you off, you might… Bend it, break it,
squeeze it…. |

6 |
Or, you could ADD new materials to your object… |
Think of all the materials there are in the world. You
could use almost anything to make your object more exciting. Make a list
of all the materials you can think of. We’ll start you off: match sticks,
paper, leather, grass, wood, foil, elastic bands, fur, raffia, sequins…
|
|
7 |
CHOOSE the materials you want to use CAREFULLY… |
Using different materials will alter the way your sculpture
LOOKS and FEELS. If you cover your sculpture in pink feathers you will
have a very different sculpture from one covered in sharp nails. If you
want to make your object stand taller – using strong sticks will be more
effective than using paper strips!
Write down, draw, or stick samples of the materials you would like to
use here:

8 |
How you ATTACH your materials is just as important as
which materials you choose… |
Think of interesting and inventive ways of fastening
materials onto your object. Using glue and tape might be too obvious.
Write a list of words that describe ways of fastening. We’ll start you
off: binding, weaving, knotting…
|
|
9 |
TRANSFORM your object into SCULPTURE! |
|
10 |
When your sculpture is finished, draw it here… |

11 |
Ask your friends what they think about your sculpture...
|
How do YOU feel about your sculpture? What would you
CHANGE if you did it again? Which MATERIALS did you think were most SUCCESSFUL?
What does it REMIND you of? Can you give it a TITLE? Write your thoughts
here. |
|
|
and later... |
Make a log book... when each pupil
in your class has made a sculpture and filled in this worksheet - bind
them all together to create a log book - a record of your sculpture chain.
Or display them on a wall.
Create an exhibition on the web... take
digital photos of your sculptures...before and after the transformation,
and create a gallery on your schools web site.
Start a sculpture chain in the whole school... every
pupil in every class could find an object to pass on to another pupil
to transform into sculpture.
