Overview
Anna founded Holiday Art Club in Kingston upon Thames as a way of extending her work with the local community. The group (aged 6-11) meet every school holiday to experiment, play, learn, share and make artworks through a process of games and activities. Focus is on art historical understanding as a basis for themed projects. Inspiration will often begin with an artist or genre, but in this case, the starting point was the subject of museums; their design, content and curation.
The session aimed to get the children thinking about the purpose of museums and to let their imaginations run wild with a brief to design their own museum, complete with a collection. Having discussed their experiences of visiting museums, the children drew their own museum buildings (inside and out) before making models of them out of matchboxes. Each drawer within a box represented a room, which they then filled with their own miniature collections of objects.
