Making Insect Sculptures
Making Insect Sculptures by Paula Briggs and Sheila Ceccarelli from AccessArt, as part of the Festival of Making 2012.
Two ways to approach wire sculpture! AccessArt recommends the Modelling Wire Rods which are very easily bent and yet hold their shape, and when used with the Flexi-wire and Floristry wire it’s easy to create sculptures rich with form and rhythm.
We took insects as our theme but this is a versatile way of working and great for theming around the human body, animals, plants etc.

Hi Alice, wire rods and flexi wire are all widely available online and in store. You could try TTS: https://www.tts-group.co.uk/.
There are different thicknesses of wire and for this activity you would need something quite mailable for the children to be able to use. I hope this helps – thanks, Rachel
