Laura McKendry is an artist-illustrator-educator based in London, whose work focuses on the natural world, especially within urban spaces. She is particularly intrigued by the parts that thrive in the absence of tending, the uncultivated wildernesses, from the street to the domestic sphere. She creates drawings that feel spontaneous, intense and joyful, combining a fragility with bold, brutal marks. Mundane greys and magnolia house paint contrast with vibrant inks and fluorescent spray paints. She stands to paint on the floor and walls, enabling greater energy and movement; becoming like a dance, darting back and forth to the paper.
