Teenagers learn about chiaroscuro by drawing skulls in candle light using charcoal and pastel. This session was made possible by the stunning loan of zoological skulls on from the University Museum of Zoology, Cambridge.

Thank you Paula. I will pass your feedback on the students. Today we’ll be interpreting the skulls in 3D, working in cardboard and masking tape.

Some of the photographs themselves have the chiaroscuro quality in themselves! Timeless and mysterious and wonderful work.
