David Oates

David is an illustrator and writer of children’s books as well as an art workshop leader. David worked in primary schools for 10 years before deciding to focus on his illustration and writing career. He offers schools workshops and consultancy on art teaching and spoke at the New Voices conference in London 2021 on the importance of art skill development.  

He mostly works in pen and ink to create illustrations in a whimsical and cartoony style, however he also uses a Gelli Plate printing process to create colourful and textured backgrounds.
