Make a Model Stitched House
This resource was developed to to celebrate the character and diversity of the many beautiful stitched houses we received as part of an AccessArt participatory project called the AccessArt Village. It’s a simple way to build a collection of architectural models and allows for lots of different configurations and layouts.
The first step is to create a sewn image of your favourite building using any textile method that you like or by combining methods like printing, painting or fabric crayons and then adding stitch or using free stitching and fabric scraps to create a textured drawing.

Which needles are best to use with the Calico please?

Hi Harriet, ordinary sewing needles can be used to stitch into calico but these can be a bit difficult to thread with embroidery thread or strands of fine wool unless you have larger needles, so you might also want to look for some Embroidery needles. Embroidery needles have a bigger ‘eye’ and so they are much easier to thread. They come in a pack like ordinary sewing needles and you get different sizes of needle in the pack which can be useful. Both sewing and embroidery needles have a sharp point so they go through the fabric smoothly, so either would do.
Hope that helps. Good luck with your project!
