As an art teacher Henry Ward transformed the way in which art was taught at Welling School in south-east London.
Henry Ward established The alTURNERtive Prize, in 2002; housed in the school’s onsite gallery the exhibition celebrated the sophisticated work his students were making. In 2011 he founded “æ”, a biannual periodical tackling issues in the arts and education with contributions from students, staff, artists, critics and writers.
Now a freelance artist and educator, he was Head of Education at Southbank Centre in London and has lectured and published widely on art and education.
